Prof. Dr. Susumu Kono is now working at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. After his Master’s degree in Engineering, he was enrolled in the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and accomplished his Ph.D. from the same university in 1995.
He started his academic career in 1989 as Research Assistant at University of Washington, Seattle while being involved in research on concrete cracking with FEM programs. His research works mainly focus on Non-linear Modelling of RC members. Prof. Kono’s primary research areas incorporate the experimental investigation of reinforced and prestressed/precast concrete structural systems subjected to earthquake loadings. Moreover, his interest lies in the performance-based design of reinforced concrete, damage control or zero damage design using prestressed/precast concrete. However, he is currently developing interests in damage evaluation/control of RC structures to improve the performance-based design, development of damage controlling systems using prestressed/precast concrete technology and study on pile and pile foundation. His diversification of research skills is really praiseworthy.
